Diego Costa on his way to Chelsea

13th April 2014 by andym

costaredChelsea are set to sign highly rated Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa this summer according to UK newspaper, the Metro. The 25 year old has been in sensational form this season, more than capably filling the void left by his departed predecessor Radamel Falcao with 35 goals in all competitions for Atleti.

With Chelsea’s roster of big name strikers including Fernando Torres and Demba Ba failing to deliver the goals on a regular basis this season, it’s hardly surprising Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been given the all clear by Roman Abramovich to part ways with the £50 million required in order to bring the Brazilian to South West London.

The classy striker, who netted in Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 win over Getafe today, will get to sample a taste of London life much earlier than expected (injury pending) with Diego Simeone’s side and Chelsea drawn together in the Semi finals of this year’s Champions League on Friday.

The odds on winning the UEFA Champions League for both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid is stacked against them however with Real Madrid (3/1) and Bayern Munich (6/4) the bookies’ preferred choice to take club football’s most coveted prize this year.
