Semi-final Showdowns With Added Spice

4th February 2014 by nickh

baleronaldIt’s semi final first leg week in the Copa Del Rey, and both games promise to be exciting, and difficult to predict. Wednesday evening will see Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona v Real Sociedad.

Barcelona are red hot favourites to progress through to the King’s Cup final, but Sociedad were a team in form prior to their thumping by Atletico at the weekend. Sociedad were unlucky to lose the fixture 4-0, and it may be that their players had one eye on this game and next week’s return.

Tata Martino’s side were distraught at losing to Valencia on Sunday. The result leaves them in a poor run of form and three points behind league leaders Atletico. Barca will be looking for redemption. They will come out all guns blazing, but Sociedad will be much more solid at the back. I predict a 3-1 victory to Barcelona tomorrow, possibly a Messi hat-trick.

The other semi-final is a dream tie. City rivals, 1st v 3rd. The old masters v the young pretenders. Ronaldo v Costa. This game really does have it all. It was a contrasting weekend for the two sides. Atletico went top of La Liga for the first time in eighteen years, while Real slipped to defeat against Athletic Club.

The form book could go out of the window tomorrow. Ancelotti expects to have Bale back, and red carded Ronaldo will play as the suspension should only apply to league matches. There will be goals in this one. I predict a 2-2 draw before the return at a fervent Vicente Calderon next week.

These really will showcase Spanish football at its best. I hope that you enjoy them as much as everyone here at www.laligablog.com will.
