Morata being tracked by Tottenham and Arsenal

29th November 2013 by tomw

1The Daily Mail are reporting that both Tottenham and Arsenal are keeping their eyes on out-of-favour Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata. Carlo Ancelotti preferred Jese to Morata for the Champions League game with Galatasaray in midweek which has apparently alerted the two top teams in North London.

Tottenham were reportedly interested in Morata during the summer and were hoping to gain the 21-year-old as part of the deal that saw Gareth Bale move to the Bernabeu. Now Spurs are keen for a loan move until the end of the season as Madrid are unlikely to sell such a promising talent. Andre Villas-Boas will surely be looking for striking options this January as his Spurs side have failed to score at the rate which would make them prime Champions League contenders.

Morata was top scorer during the Under 21 European Championships during the summer but has found playing time hard to come by since Ancelotti’s appointment. Despite the dwindling form of Karim Benzema, Jese and bale have been selected before Morata and both he and Madrid are keen he continues his development.

Arsenal also want Morata as they have been heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud at the Emirates with only Nicklas Bendtner as cover. Morata would be exactly the kind of youngster Arsene Wenger enjoys playing and one which would surely fit in with the exuberant style of play.

Morata is widely seen as the next genuine option up front for Spain after the current generation have passed and Jose Mourinho was a massive fan of Morata. Madrid want to keep Morata but also wary of stopping him from reaching his potential.
