Ronaldo to Man Utd speculation growing as latest contract offer from Real is snubbed

27th December 2012 by andym

It started out as a few Chinese whispers on this blog a couple of months back, that maybe, just maybe Portuguese midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo who was highly revered at his former club Manchester United may be on his way back to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

Many brushed this rumour off as nonsense however and understandably so, why would anyone want to leave the current La Liga champions for a side that is arguably not as decorated in talent and history as Real?

But with news circulating that CR7 has rejected Real Madrid’s latest attempt to keep him at the club until 2018, maybe there is some truth in the rumours after all. Couple this with the fact that the 27 year old has recently been documented as saying he is ‘sad’ with the current situation he finds himself in at Madrid then speculation that Ronaldo could be returning to Old Trafford does not sound so far-fetched.

The heightened speculation has come about after Spanish Newspaper AS reported that Ronaldo turned down Real’s latest contract renewal offer this week worth allegedly between 10-15 million euros a year.

It is unknown however, the reasons as to why the 2012 Balon d’or nominee did not put pen to paper on this occasion.

But with the January transfer window fast-approaching we will soon know where Ronaldo’s heart truly lies.

It will also be of some encouragement to United fans that their manager Sir Alex Ferguson has not ruled out a possible bid to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford in 2013. When speaking to the Guardian this week about the possibility of his return to Man Utd in 2013 he rather cryptically had just this to say;

“It’s a long way off but you never know.”

    Who says that Man Utd are not as decorated in talent at Real – are we talking about the Man Utd I know? throughout their history Man United have had the best players in the world including the very ever best George Best, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Duncan Edwards, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Mark Hughes, Bruce, Cristiano Ronaldo, and so many others to mention. Not only but some of their players were then bought by Real and Barcelona. I’d say a lot of players would want to leave Real for Man Utd – for quite a few reasons: first and foremost no other team in the world has the winning mentality that United have; second the players work for each other like a family and last but not least they have the largest fan base and are the biggest club in the world. According to Forbes they have over 900 million fans.
