World Cup Group B Team Profile – Netherlands

30th May 2014 by tomw

In what will be a repeat of the 2010 World Cup Final, Spain face the Netherlands in their opening Group B game, with the 'Oranje' looking to exact revenge for the 1-0 defeat four years ago. After failure at Euro 2012, will the Dutch be able to hold Spain to a draw over 90 minutes again, or steam through the group like they did in qualifying? … [Read more...]

Barcelona 3-1 Arsenal

8th March 2011 by andym

Arsenal's Champions League dream is well and truely over after they crashed out the competition suffering a 3-1 defeat against Barcelona at the Nou Camp this evening. Despite a stern defensive display from Arsenal the hosts atypically controlled proceedings throughout the tie and eventually took the lead on half-time when Lionel Messi latched onto a Cesc Fabregas error and provided a neat finish flicking the ball over Arsenal Keeper Fabianski and volleying home from close-range. … [Read more...]

Barcelona v Arsenal Preview

7th March 2011 by andym

Barcelona will be looking to avenge their 2-1 defeat at the Emirates a fortnight ago as they host Arsenal in the second leg of this all-important last 16 Champions League clash Tuesday evening. Arsenal triumphed in the first leg of this tie just two weeks ago thanks to goals from Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin. Barcelona originally took the lead early through a David Villa strike but Arsene Wenger's men battled back valiantly to claim a 2-1 victory. With injury worries, League Cup heartache and an unconvincing performance against Sunderland last weekend Arsenal will certainly have … [Read more...]

Birmingham Win League Cup Thanks To Late Martins Strike

27th February 2011 by andym

Birmingham City were 2-1 winners in today's League Cup final after Obafemi Martins was able to pounce on an Arsenal goal keeping error and snatch the winning  goal right at the death. It was Birmingham City who originally took the lead through Nikola Zigic as he rose above the Arsenal defence to head home for his side half-way into the first period. It wasn't long before Arsenal conjured up a reply however and it was in-form striker Robin van Persie who was able to finish a well-taken volley into the bottom left corner - unfortunately injuring himself in the process. Both sides continued to … [Read more...]

Newcastle Produce Comeback Of The Season In 4-4 Thriller Against Arsenal

5th February 2011 by andym

To anyone that feels like giving up on their team when they look totally dead and buried with seemingly no way back, Newcastle United today showed us in spectacular fashion that when there's a will there's always a way. Newcastle United and Arsenal unarguably contested the game of the season so far in an eight goal thriller which eventually ended 4-4 at St James' Park this afternoon. The visitors Arsenal had a dream start after goals in the first and third minutes from Theo Walcott and Johan Djourou gave Newcastle United a mountain to climb so early on. The Gunners continued to pile on the … [Read more...]

Arsenal 3 – 1 Partizan Belgrade Highlights

8th December 2010 by andym

Arsenal ensured qualification to the Champions League knockout stages this evening after a comfortable 3-1 victory over Partizan Belgrade in Group H. Robin van Persie put the hosts ahead from a spot-kick early on before they suffered a slight scare when Serbian visitors Partizan levelled early on in the second half thanks to Brazilian striker Cleo. However the Gunners held their nerve and regained the lead through Theo Walcott whilst Samir Nasri added a third to put qualification beyond doubt for Arsene Wenger's men. … [Read more...]
