Barcelona’s Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez looks to be on his way out of the Nou Camp, with Arsenal leading the race to sign him. Liverpool are also keen on Sanchez, and wanted to take him to Anfield as part of the Luis Suarez transfer, but Spanish media are reporting that the striker’s preference is a move to London.
With Barca continuing to negotiate with Liverpool for Suarez, they too would be happy for Sanchez to choose Liverpool in a bid to cut the expected £63m fee. However, Sanchez is said to want to move to either Arsenal or Juventus, with both clubs reluctant to enter into a bidding war.
The Gunners are reported to have offered £34m for Sanchez already, and the deal could be hinged on when and for how much the Suarez transfer costs Barcelona.
Sanchez could be Barcelona’s 5th choice forward when the season begins in six weeks, behind Lionel Messi, Neymar, Suarez and even Pedro, depending on new manager Luis Enrique’s preference. However, Suarez would be banned for the opening two months and Neymar could still be injured after breaking a vertebrae during Brazil’s quarter-final victory over Colombia on Friday.
A move to the Emirates would see Sanchez link up with Olivier Giroud as the only other first-team striker, with Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil likely to interchange on the wings next season.
Regular football is exactly what Sanchez deserves after proving his quality last season in La Liga and during Chile’s promising World Cup adventure. Sanchez has been forced to accommodate Messi during his time at Barcelona despite offering a genuine threat of his own through the middle.
