Spurs and Arsenal chasing forgotten Spanish striker Fernando Llorente

12th December 2012 by andym

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are in the hunt for the signature of Spanish international Fernando Llorente as he looks set to leave Athletic Bilbao in the summer.
The forgotten 27 year-old has been frozen out by his current club Bilbao and told his contract will not be up for renewal come next summer. Both North London sides have been reportedly monitoring the forwards situation closely with Juventus also showing an interest.

All interested parties could offer a cut-price amount of £7 million for the striker in January or wait until the end of the season and acquire his services for nothing. The method by which Llorente is signed by prospective clubs however is irrelevant as a lack of fire-power for both Spurs and Arsenal has been evident for quite some time this season.

Arsenal for instance, were unable to cause sufficient problems to the lowly defence of League Two outfit Bradford City yesterday evening in their shock quarter final League Cup defeat.

Spurs too despite improved results on the pitch recently are placing a lot of reliance on English striker Jermaine Defoe and with out of form Emmanuel Adebayor their only other real attacking option, Llorente could provide much needed strength in depth.

I’m not sure I’d say Adebayor was out of form.
He’s scored in 2 goals in his last 3 starts, and is looking very sharp imo.
